DIY is a huge trend in weddings today. There are lots of easy decor ideas on Pinterest (follow Wedding Belles here) like centerpieces and fun programs, but what about invitations?

When I got married I decided that this was a challenge I wanted to undertake, so I thought I would share a few of the things I learned along the way.

  • You need someone who has graphic design skills and can lay out something in Adobe InDesign or Illustrator. Microsoft Word or Publisher are not enough if you want it to look professional when you print.
  • Your average office supply store (Staples, Office Max) carries some pretty nice paper. I used an ivory coverstock that worked really well for my invitations.
  • In Atlanta, Sam Flax has both the largest selection and most affordable envelopes by far. They have lots of colors and sizes in their house brand. I ended up buying the paper to back my invitations there too.
  • For easy and inexpensive envelope liners use wrapping paper. I bought some elegant-looking silver gift wrap at Target, made a template, and lined all of my envelopes with it. They turned out great!
